Banks Hunter, President  Banks Hunter, a Raleigh native and UNC-CH graduate, entered the Real Estate business in 1979 working for long-time real estate mogul Zack Bacon at Bacon and Company. Bacon and Company is now more widely known as Prudential Realty. In the early 1980’s Banks obtained his CCIM – Certified Commercial Investment Member designation.

Early in his career, one of his major projects involved the management and sales of the converted Cameron Village Condominiums. Banks sold over 150 condominiums on behalf of developer York Construction Company. Soon thereafter, Banks began an eight-year stint working for Dave Brady of Lincoln Developers (now BPG Properties).

While at Lincoln, Banks learned and practiced the basic principles of commercial real estate. During his tenure there, Banks concentrated on both the leasing and the subsequent sale of investment properties.

In 1989, Banks moved out on his own, creating Hunter & Associates. Since then he has spent the last 20 years building the company into a full service commercial real estate firm specializing in the management, leasing and sales of commercial properties. Focusing on retail properties, Hunter & Associates now handles the leasing and/or management of well over 70 properties on behalf of its many clients. The inventory for the firm currently encompasses over 5 and one half million square feet. Hunter & Associates represents their clients on a 3rd party basis only. The firm works for smaller landlord entities, major retail developers as well as institutional clients such as Sun life, Emmes, AEW, and Principal. Whereas grocery anchored shopping centers are the staples of its business, Hunter & Associates also handles power centers, and smaller service-oriented centers as well. The firm’s inventory spans the Triangle area to coastal North Carolina.

While a large part off the leasing business at Hunter & Associates pertains to existing centers, the firm has been heavily involved in “ground up” leasing at properties such as: Gateway Commons in Wake Forest, Alexander Village at Brier Creek, Hope Valley Commons in Durham, Olive Chapel Village in Apex, Sexton Commons in Fuquay-Varina, McGee’s Crossings in Johnston County, Lynncroft in Greenville, NC, and Middle Creek Commons in Clayton. The firm has also been successful in major renovations and the re-tenating projects such as the highly recognized and awarded Falls Village shopping Center in North Raleigh, The Professional Building in Downtown Raleigh, and Townridge on Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh.

Banks has grown his property management division into an industry leader in this area. Managing over 1 million square feet of retail and office space last year, the firm continues to please its many clients with professional treatment and effective practices each year.

Over the years, Banks has been involved in the sale of numerous shopping centers and investment opportunities. This has become an integral part of the business at Hunter & Associates as the firm continues to service the sales and acquisition needs of its investor clients. As retail has been leading the investment sales market recently, Hunter & Associates remains in the forefront of this field.

Banks is a CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member), an active member of ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) and TCAR (Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors) where he has served on the board.
